Pet Friendly Beaches in Devon

For many of us our pets are members of the family, so is it any wonder that so many people are choosing to take their pets on holiday. With the growing number of Devon cottages allowing pets the county is fast becoming one of the most popular destinations in the UK for pet holidays. If you are one of the many thousand who will be heading to Devon this year for a holiday with your dog then here is our guide to some of the dog friendly beaches available in Devon.

East Portlemouth Beaches
This pretty beach is just opposite the popular town of Salcombe along the eastern side of the estuary which stretches from East Portlemouth almost out to the English Channel. You will easily be able to see why the area has been awarded an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) status and it makes the perfect place to spend your day relaxing, walking or building sandcastles in the sun. A cafe is available serving local organic food. Dogs are welcome all year round.

Salcombe North Sands Beach
Salcombe North Sands Beach is another AONB which is located between two headlands. The beach retains it rural charms despite being close to the town of Salcombe with all its amenities. The beach is only available during low tide as it is totally submerged during high tides. Dogs are welcome all year round.

Mill Bay Beach
Just south of East Portlemouth beach you will find Mill Bay which is a privately owned beach. Mill Bay beach has become popular with families thanks to the clean and safe bathing waters and the stunning AONB which the beach lies in. At low tide there are plenty of rocks for the kids to explore. Parking in the area is limited so it is often advised to take the ferry from Salcombe. Dogs are welcome all year round.

Beer Beach
Beer is the picturesque fishing villages with beautiful high white chalk cliffs. The area is very popular for walking and offers some stunning views. Dogs are not allowed on the western beach between May and September.

Dawlish Warren
Dawlish Warren is one of the most popular beaches in all of Devon and boasts stunning sand dunes and an internationally recognised nature reserve. The beach is a proud nine times winner of the European Blue Flag Award. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round only between groyne 4 and 9.

Seaton Beach
Seaton's pebbled beach lies right in the heart of the town and is backed by the long walled promenade, the harbour and picturesque countryside. The town has plenty of fine examples of Victorian and Edwardian buildings as well as numerous gardens and shops. Dogs are not allowed on the beach between May and September.
